Every British Division should include an Engineering complement, organised as detailed above.
Although similar to other Nation's "Engineer Battalions", the British Divisional Engineers are a collection of independent units, operating under the Divisional Engineering Headquarters (which itself is an independent unit), rather than a single battalion - In Spearhead this means they must always be attached out - they may not operate as a "Fighting Battalion".
The SBG is not a Pontoon bridge, and can only cross minor obstacles such as ATk Trenches, Craters, and small Streams/Gullys. As it is not a Pontoon bridge it only requires 2 turns to place and will take Armoured Vehicles (same rating as Bridging Vehicles, SH page 29).
Armoured Divisions had a Churchill (or Sherman) "ARK" (Armoured Ramp Karrier) platoon added to their Field Park Squadrons late 1943 or early 1944.
Standard British practice was to concentrate all Bridging Equipment at Corps level for allocation as required under the instructions of the CCRE (Corps Commander Royal Engineers). This equipment includes Pontoon (26 tonnes), Inglis (no weight limit), and Bailey (41-68 tonnes) Bridges. Divisions were normally issued only with Inflatable Reconnaissance Boats (used by Engineer Officers), and 1 or 2 SBG (Small Box Girder) Bridges.
